PART 2: – LET’S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS!
We have worked out a couple of different pricing options for you.
ABOUT OUR PAYMENT:
NO RISK and very little work
If swing dancing is your hobby or you are overwhelmed with work, and yet, you spend your free time to grow your swing dance community, you might find it hard to take on the economical risks and the legal “boring” stuff. We can take care of that for you. We will need your help to find a suitable location and being the on place spokes-person for this event. Other than that, we can take care of the rest! Text and design for Newsletters, flyers and homepage, emails, registrations etc. We will cover for the expenses such as traveling, room rent, taxes and music equipment etc. All of this for the possibility to earn the profit.
MINIMUM + FIFTY-FIFTY
The first goal is to cover all expenses (room rent, travel costs, etc.) plus a minimum hourly salary per teaching couple. After that, we split what’s left 50% (SwingStep) / 50% (you). This way it’s low risk for you as the organizer and everyone’s work is compensated. The SwingStep team is a group of excellent Lindy hop teachers who are ready to hold workshops and shows for you. If you are organizing a workshop with several teaching couples from different countries, a percentage deal is not always ideal. Or, you have a business and you want to fix your expenses so that you can calculate your possible profit. Then perhaps a fixed price is most suitable for you. QUESTION: Can I hire more than one teaching couple?
ANSWER: Absolutely! In fact, if we have multiple level workshops with several couples we can create a smooth experience allowing the students to experience classes with consistent terminology and material that builds up on each other. Ideal for giving the dancers the best learning opportunity.
The minimum number of hours we teach depends on how far we have to travel and how many days we are away from our local scene. Preferably, we teach 8-10 hours at a two-day workshop.
PART 3: GETTING STUDENTS TO YOUR CLASSES
THIS IS WHAT WE RECOMMEND YOU TO CHARGE FOR OUR WORKSHOPS:
How much should I charge for the workshop? This is one of the most difficult questions an organizer has to answer. It all depends on your expenses, room capacity and how many potential students you have. We typically plan to get around 40 – 50 students in each class. We have our best experiences in organizing when we follow certain guidelines in pricing and advertising:
- Our experience has shown that playing with discounts can cause more confusion than incentivize the participants. Our experiments has shown that a simple fair price without any discounts works better than various “early bird” discounts etc.
- Today, workshops are priced between 8 – 20 Euro / hour of class depending on the size and offer. We typically try to stay between 10 – 15 Euro.
- If you have a large community, you can offer multiple smaller packages that individually costs slightly more and the participants can pick and chose what they want to sign up too. If you have a small “target group” you should rather go for fixed price and motivate your participants to join the entire workshop and pay the full rate.
- Make the first announcement at least 3 months ahead of time.

Our emails are carefully designed to make an impact. We put a great deal of effort into making the message compelling and clear, while still providing exhaustive information.

MUSICALITY – MATCH THE ENERGY

Goal: When the energy of the music flows up and down like a wave, we want our dancing to match that energy. How? You will learn how to change your movements to become softer when the energy of the music is lower and how you can explode in your movements when the music goes crazy.

Goal: Dance to music of 200 beats per minute and faster!
How? You will learn several techniques for high energy, fast dancing.
Part 1: “Me, my self and I” block: The first part will focus on exercises that help you understand how your own body can move to really fast music. These exercises demand little or no partnering, helping you to focus only on yourself.
Part 2: “The Swingout” block: We will start by working on techniques that help you swing out really fast! You will also learn about over and under-rotated swingouts, monster swingouts and swingouts with swivels and kicks.
Part 3: “Fast social dancing” block: During a social dance, you dance for a full song or even several fast songs in a row. During this block, you will learn about movements that help you catch your breath during fast dances.
Who? This workshop is recommended for dancers that are getting comfortable with their Lindy Hop and Charleston at medium tempo. If you only would learn the right techniques, you would love to hop on the dance floor as soon as a fast song such as Jumpin’ at the Woodside pops up.

ABOUT ALI AND KATJA
It was love at first dance: Ali & Katja have been dancing together ever since they met on the dance floor in 2003. Based in Heidelberg, Germany, they are working to spread the Lindy Hop bug through their local classes and workshops around Europe.
Ali&Katja’s unique background of PhD studies in chemistry and translation studies allows them to compose classes that are focused on clarity while letting you explore your own creativity and understanding of the dance and technique. Ali&Katja have the ability to transform fuzzy conceptual elements like “having fun”, “musicality” and “stretch” into clear, step by step “how to” instructions that you can use on the social dance floor the same day to impress your partner.
Ali&Katja’s classes stand out because of their counter-intuitive teaching methods. For example: you learned that stretch means moving away? Does that sometimes feel heavy or like pulling to you? Learn to mimic the “middle molecules” of a rubber band that stay still (here comes the chemistry) and how to be stretch instead of stretching your partner. In their classes, you’ll also get the tools how to practice and tell if you’re “doing it right” outside the class room. This way, you can continue to improve and practice on your own and take your dancing to the next level.
Cancellation policy: Your registration is binding once you receive our confirmation and we receive your payment. We guarantee you a space at the workshop at the agreed price, you guarantee that you will participate. If you have to cancel, you can transfer your registration to a new participant. If you cannot find a replacement, we can only refund you 50% of your workshop fee.

PART 5: CREATING FLYERS
When you set up a workshop, it’s a good thing to create a flyer that people can take home to remember the basic information about the event. The flyers job is to get a person to visit the homepage where they can get the full information about the homepage. The main purpose of the front page of the flyer is to captivate and motivate a person to pick up the flyer. The main purpose of the back page of the flyer is to motivate the person to visit the homepage.

- Part of the back side can be a few more details about the event. Who this workshop is intended to and where it is placed.
- The other part is a magnetic offer that motivates the person to visit the homepage to get more info.
For your convenience, we have prepared a flyer template for you: If you have a design idea and if you have access to using photoshop, you can download this photoshop template that is specially suitable for sending to professional printing companies.
